Driving thru immense fog in Yellowstone Hayden Valley, off in the distance my friend and I spotted an object moving slowing but couldn’t distinguish exactly what it was as we couldn’t see more than a couple hundred yards. The object was approaching a calm section of the mighty Yellowstone River and began to turn my direction. Once determining it to be a bison and not a bear, I ran thru the snow as quickly as I could because I wanted to see if I could catch him crossing the stoic river. As he slowly meandered thru the sage my direction I was able to see the hoar frost that had built up on his fur from the freezing weather. My super expensive camera with the best auto focus in the world was having serious issues gaining focus as the scene was so white. I had to underexpose and manually focus the image to get any contrast and clarity. Overall I’m super happy with the resulting image as it is a testament to the toughness of these animals.
