The incoming storm decides the fate of this beloved Lace-leaf Japanese Maple. Knowing I wanted to visit this amazing little tree (only about 10ft tall) at the peak of its colors, I decided to make the adventure half way across the country and back in a single day. Studying the colors of the Pacific North West for years I had a fairly certain idea when this little tree I had visited before was potentially gone put on a color show. Only problem was that with the extremely hot and dry weather, the tree began to turn color more than a week earlier than expected and with the incoming ‘bomb cyclone’ storm brewing off shore, good chance this little tree wasn’t going to last. By the end of the day this beautiful maple shed 75% of its beautiful little leaves. When I returned less than a week later, it was completely barren.
