Brown Bear Pounce
The exhilaration that comes with being in a river with brown bear fishing for salmon is unmatched. I can’t think of anything I’ve done that is more exciting. The nerve racking encounters, the mighty splashes of water, and the look one their faces when they catch and often don’t catch a fish is what keeps bring me back. The first encounters are always frightening, but now I love them. They make me feel alive. The way a bear 5x your size looks at you in close proximity… is just amazing. This bear ran off the shoulder of the nearby river bank and crashed into a pool of sockeye salmon just under the surface of the water. The pounces happen so fast its a treat to capture one on camera without all the water covering the bears face and eventually going 5 feet over its head.
