Sleeping Away

Just sleeping away… The way a brown bear does after eating to its hearts content. I found this bear snoring on the shores of Katmai under the warm September sun. Bears often sleep during the warmest or windiest part of the day to conserve energy and be more bear away when other bears are also more active. This large fella would toss and turn and put his giant paws over his eyes to block the bright sun every few minutes as he tried to catch a few midday zzzzzzzzzzz’s.
