The dry landscape garden referred to as “Karesansui” in Japan is littered with brilliant color changing maple tree leaves. Elements of the Karesansui (the smooth stones) are strategically placed in Japanese gardens however, the falling leaves were not, and add a unique seasonal touch. The leaves are often cleaned up when noticed by a caretaker of the garden. I feel the fallen leaves add a lot of “Zen” to it personally.
