Horseshoe Bend of the Colorado River is one of these iconic places you just have to visit when you travel in the Southwest. Typically there is hoards of people visiting to watch the sunset, however if you go during the winter months, you can have a much less crowded experience. This was the case this particular evening, unlike many before. I was able to actually find a unique and uncrowded spot to setup and wait for sunset. Standing over the edge I was able to capture just the perfect moment in which the sun would allow a sunstar as the sun set half way behind the distant sandstone hills, but more importantly I wanted the brilliant last light of day on the foreground rocks. That direct last cast of light illuminated the foreground red rocks brilliantly for all of about 15 seconds before it diminished into another evening.
