Ohhh this was a hard image to get. Early one morning I was camping deep in the San Juan mountains of Colorado trying to capture the Milky Way above American Basin with foreground wildflowers. Sounds easy right… This image took two nights and hundreds of attempts because the slightest of breezes would make the flowers move. When using a long shutter speed, I need absolute calm to freeze frame the flowers and at close to 12,000ft, and calm doesn’t happen very often. I had a small window of time to work with each night as I needed only a sliver of moonlight to rise exactly at my backside to illuminate the foreground without creating any shadows. Fun challenges some images are.
