This was a cold one. -55F was the temperature outside when I photographed this giant. I was in the northern range of Yellowstone Nation Park on a blustery February day in 2022 when I spotted a rather large bison hustling thru the snow on a nearby hillside. I made the hike in my snow shoes to get way out in front of his general direction of travel and waited for him to come into view. I was only able to capture a small series of images ( roughly 10) as my camera froze up and completely stopped working… in addition to my eyelashes freezing together as I blinked. I have never has my eyelashes freeze so this was a new one for me. As the bitter cold continued and a now frozen camera, I moved out of his way and back to the truck to thaw my eyelids and see if any of the few shutter snaps I took actually turned out. This one was my favorite.
